Austin: The Hernández Clinical Neuroscience Lab is using scientifically rigorous methods to explore the efficacy of Jin Shin acupressure in the recovery of functionality following neurological insult. We are interested in providing an experimental basis for improving clinical treatment following stroke and traumatic brain injury so that neurobehavioral function is optimized.
Goals and Objectives of the Lab:
Our clinically-based program of research focuses on improving recovery and optimizing neurobehavioral function in individuals who have suffered a neurological insult, such as a stroke or traumatic brain injury. Our lab is dedicated to the use of scientifically rigorous experimental designs to investigate the role of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) in the treatment of neurological insults. We are currently using a double-blinded, placebo-controlled design to assess the neurobehavioral consequences of Jin Shin acupressure following traumatic brain injury. We are using similar methods to study the effects of Jin Shin on the physiological and non-physiological aspects of the stress response.
