In class we have talked about the development of an understanding of people, what some call a Theory of Mind, and how it involves social and cognitive development. There is also evidence suggesting a tie between Theory of Mind and the development of language. Here are some of the relevant findings:
1. Based on these findings, how can language development and the development of a theory of mind be related? Be sure to distinguish correlational evidence vs. evidence of causal relation.
2. Think about one specific false-belief task to answer the following questions. It may be useful to write down the "script" for it and think about what the child would have to understand at each step.
b. Besides language development, are there any general cognitive abilities that would have to be in place to help a child pass this task? Explain.
