Selecting Applicants

Several kinds of data are used in evaluating applicants. An undergraduate major (or its equivalent) — 30–45 semester hours — in Psychology is preferred. We use guidelines with respect to the GRE General Test: a recommended minimum score of 600 on both Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning. The Advanced GRE test in psychology is required of all applicants to the Clinical Program, but no specific scores are required. Information concerning an individual's previous academic performance is also weighed. Although it is necessary for a student to have a moderately high grade point average (i.e., above 3.3) to be considered, grades are not the chief determinant of acceptance to our program. We look for students whose interests come close to our training objectives and whose research interests match those of the faculty. We are also looking for students who have had supervised research experience and practical experience (perhaps at a volunteer level) relevant to clinical psychology.

Applicants are encouraged to specify members of the faculty whom they view as having interests most compatible with their own and in whose labs they would most like to work.

The Program plans to admit 3-5 new students for fall 2012.
