Welcome!
We are in the process of creating a new website. This interim page provides a brief overview of the work that we are doing in my lab. Please check back in the coming week for a comprehensive overview of our research and education initiatives.
Our work focuses on developing evidence based interventions to help people vulnerable to depression care effectively for themselves and others in their lives in order to experience sustained happiness and well-being.
Our clinical research addresses a broad range of topics, including examining the clinical benefit of psychological interventions, such as cognitive and behavior therapies, and contemplative practices, such mindfulness meditation and yoga. Our research also seeks to understand the ways in which clinical interventions work as well as the causes of depression so that we can develop more effective interventions. We specifically address the mental health needs of women and the challenges and promises of pregnancy and the postpartum. We currently are conducting a number of projects aimed at the prevention and treatment of perinatal depression.
We also are committed to translating our science into practice by providing specialized education, training, and consultation to students and professionals. We currently are conducting a number of projects aimed at transporting evidence-based psychological practices into routine clinical care settings.
If you are interested in applying for graduate study to work with me, I expect to accept a student for the fall of 2009. Graduate students working with me are trained in the scientist-practitioner model, which includes intensive training in all levels of the research process and clinical intervention. Ideal applicants are those who are interested in becoming creative and productive clinical scientists. I am particularly interested in applicants who want to study the treatment and prevention of depression (with a particular focus on perinatal mental health), behavior therapy, and mindfulness-based clinical interventions.
