The Center for Prosocial Communities: Mission Statement
Our group involves faculty and students at CU and other
institutions who are committed to understanding and promoting resilience
among those at exceptionally high-risk for bad life outcomes. We conduct
research on how resilience naturally unfolds and on how interventions
artificially instigate resilience. We are interested in interventions
commonly provided to high-risk youth. At our clinic, we evaluate community-,
school, and family-based interventions designed to promote resilience
among high-risk youth and multi-problem families. In our lab, we train
students in research and clinical methods. We consult with juvenile-justice
and school systems around the country about cost-effective methods of
identifying, assessing, and helping high-risk youth, their families,
and their communities. We provide free clinical evaluations to hundreds
of juvenile offenders and their families each year and low-cost treatment
to a growing number of families each year.
