Elaine A. Blechman, Ph.D., is a professor of psychology at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and director of the Center for Prosocial Communities, her university laboratory. She received her Ph.D.in clinical and social psychology from UCLA in 1971. Dr. Blechman has published 6 books and more than 75 papers and chapters about coping, competence, and resilience among at-risk youths and women. Dr. Blechman founded The Prosocial Communities Solution with the mission of preventing violence and promoting resilience among at-risk youths.

Dr. Blechman's research and professional activities focus on:

  • Developing and implementing a constitutional standard of care for at-risk youths.
  • Explaining the development of risk for and resilience from delinquency, substance abuse, and related adverse life outcomes.
  • Designing and testing innovative prevention and intervention strategies to promote resilience among juvenile offenders and other at-risk youth.
