Notes for faculty/Instructors on using course wikis.

To request a new course wiki or to have an old one resurrected, please email Jon or Ernie.

Course wikis are stored in individual instructor folders in the “courses” folder on the wiki server. At the beginning of a given semester, we will put links to course wikis that are active on the dept. wiki front page. You can use the “Index” tool to locate all the files under your name even if they are not linked on the front page.

In the past many of the course wikis have used the username “student” for read-only access to the wiki. In the new wiki system, we have to give each course wiki a different username for the “student” account or they will have access to more wikis than intended. The default username we will be using is the course number, e.g. “7102-002”. For wikis transferred from the old server the password is the same as on the old server.

Please try both your instructor login and your student login to make sure they work. Contact Jon or Ernie if there are problems.

See the “Media Files” section of the User's Manual (right hand tab above) for instructions on uploading and managing files on your wiki. See the “Wiki Editing Help” page (also linked above) for help making your wiki fancier (tables, lists, multiple pages, links to the outside world, etc.).
