This is an old revision of the document!

The only way to get internship credit through the Department of Psychology and Neuroscience is to do a clinical internship is to take the Field Internship Course (PSYC 4931).

This class provides a great opportunity to explore how mental health care providers integrate clinical, empirical, and theoretical knowledge into their day-to-day work environment. The goals are for you to:

→ Obtain clinical field experience → Narrow the gap between theory and practice → Learn what makes an agency/ clinician ethical and competent → Begin to develop professional goals

The class requires that you complete 120 hours of volunteer work at an approved organization. This averages out to eight hours per week (excluding finals week and fall/spring break). You must also take the internship class, PSYC 4931. This class is offered every fall and spring, but never in the summer. Internships are always volunteer positions (no pay). Your volunteer work must include clinical work (i.e., working with individuals with a mental health diagnosis) and high-quality, ongoing supervision.
