Department of Psychology
University of Colorado at Boulder
How? Participate in an interdisciplinary clinical research study on increasing healthy behaviors. This study is being run by researchers at the University of Colorado and is funded by the National Cancer Institute.
What is it? A 12-month home based health program with either a general health and wellness focus or a more specific exercise focus. (Individuals will be randomly assigned to one of the two programs). Monthly mailings with information and advice will be sent directly to your home. Progress and change will be tracked.
How will this benefit me?
- Free physical
- Free measures of health and fitness levels before and after completion of the program
- Free monthly mailings with information and advice about health and wellness or exercise
- Free individual meeting with a registered dietician
- $300 financial compensation for your time
What is involved? We ask you to come to the University of Colorado at Boulder campus and complete questionnaires about demographics, mood, and health behaviors. You will also be asked to complete a physical including measurements of blood pressure and heart rate, a test of aerobic capacity and a moderate exercise activity. You will also have a blood sample taken and a DNA cheek swab. Following these assessments you will be receiving materials through the mail about ways to improve your health (with either a specific exercise focus or a more general health and wellness focus), we expect you to use these materials to help you become healthier. These materials will be mailed to you throughout the year, and you will also be asked to fill out questionnaires and assessments regarding your health and behaviors. At 6 months and again at the end at 12 months you’ll be asked to come back to the University of Colorado at Boulder for face to face assessments.
