Modeling axonal propagation delays

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to model both short and long distance connections in a
network. Unfortunately, I can't find an elegant method for modeling
fast versus slow arrival times of neuronal activation. I've tried using
connection weights but I don't want to affect the magnitude of the
incoming signal. I just want it to be delayed in the case of the long
connection. I also tried making the sending neurons of the long
connection take longer to fire but this isn't really what I want
either. Someone suggested that I use a domino effect of intermediary
neurons to propagate the activation signal in the long connection. This
might work but the extra neurons would greatly slow down my simulation
and I still think there must be a more direct approach.

Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Tony Rodriguez
